Even on Saturday afternoon at Athlone Stadium, they could not beat Kaizer Chiefs as they drew 0-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter.
However, coach Craig Roslee was quick to defend his team's dismal performance and instead heaped praise on his lads saying: "My guys played well today [Saturday] but we should have scored in the first half. I am happy that we managed to grab the odd point and bear in mind that we were playing against an improved Kaizer Chiefs."
Amakhosi's coach Muhsin Ertugal believes his charges are on the right track.
"Yes, we had a good game but failed to score at least two goals in the first half. Though I am happy with the point, I have told my guys to focus and reminded them that tough games are awaiting them," warned Ertugal.
The Urban Warriors took the game to their opponents but failed to find the net in the 7th minute. Sameehg Doutie's shot was parried for a corner by Chiefs keeper Emille Baron who had a good game in place of number one keeper Itumeleng Khune.
Chiefs' bench shook their heads in dismay when their striker, Kaizer Motaung, could not convert Arthur Zwane's cross into a goal. His shot went straight to Ajax keeper Andre Petim who was at his mercy.
Motaung was unlucky in the 83rd minute, when his shot hit the upright after a defensive blunder by the home side's central defender, Eduardo Ferreira.
Ajax's striker, Sifiso Vilakazi, saw his goal-bound shot cleared off the goal line by Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi midway through the first half.
