Valentine's Day is not just about giving roses or diamond rings.
It is a romantic day for couples to show how much they care about each other.
Even small gestures count a lot. Baking a cake is a very romantic gesture for this day of love.
If you want to show that special someone that you care, Sowetan has the perfect recipe for you.
CHOCOLATE SWEETHEART CAKES
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
3 tbsp cocoa powder
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold water
3 tbsp cooking oil
1/2 tsp white vinegar
Stir together 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine and 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder until smooth.
Add 2/3 cup sifted powdered sugar. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla and about 2 to 3 teaspoons milk to make it of spreading consistency, beating with wire whisk or wooden spoon until smooth.
Grease a baking pan with oil and little flour.
Stir together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, soda and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
Stir together water, oil, vinegar and vanilla extracts. Add dry ingredients and beat well.
Pour the batter into a pan and bake it at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes.
Leave the cake to cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut the cake into four heart shapes. Spread the chocolate frosting on all the pieces.
Decorate the hearts with roses and other pretty things.
