After assembling the state-of-the-art roof at Loftus Stadium, the process of refurbishing the popular Tshwane sports facility is nearing its end.
"We are over the moon that the job of upgrading the stadium is 90 percent complete," said Godfrey Nkwane, the City of Tshwane's World Cup chief executive.
The stadium will also host one of the biggest games of the Confederations Cup in June when Brazil play Italy, a game which is on the lips of many people.
"Constructors have started doing final touch-ups, the process of upgrading the stadium will be completed the latest by the end of February," Nkwane said.
"With the roof fitted, the stadium looks great from all angles.. We are also happy with the progress regarding issues relating to information technology and we are installing surveillance cameras.
'There will also be a control room which will be operational for the Confederations Cup and World Cup for safety and security reasons.
"Sound and evacuation are also done.
"The installation of new seats was put on hold as the process of sourcing additional funds was under way after we had a shortfall.
"We have secured funding from the National Treasury, about R11 million will be used for the installation of [50000] new seats.
"The current seats we have do not look bad at all and have already been approved by Fifa, but we decided to get new ones so that the entire facility can look incredible."
The total shortfall, provided for by the National Treasury, was R25 million.
On their preparations for the eagerly-awaited June 21 clash between Italy and Brazil, Nkwane said: "We are excited that tickets sales are going very well. We have been getting enquiries from all over the world for that game.
"Our hotel and tourism industry have also been kept busy."
