Vavi enjoys best of both worlds

Zwelinzima Vavi has done South Africa no favour by declining his nomination for MP of the ANC.

As he has done for the past 10 years, he will continue to sow confusion among workers and other voters by opposing the government in spite of Cosatu being an alliance partner of the ANC.

This action renders meaningless the role of other parties in Parliament. In gratitude, the ANC disregards opposition parties. I hope Cope will now change this situation. The laws passed over the years and the ANC's election manifestoes pay tribute to Cosatu and the SACP's contributions to the so-called national democratic revolution.

To complete the communist take over of the ANC, which was started by Gwede Mantashe, the SACP chairman, their secretary-general Blade Nzimande will be deployed back to Parliament or Cabinet as education minister, after he was cheated out of this position in 1994.

With the above firmly in place, it will be all systems go for Vavi to sit in judgment of the performance of Parliament and Cabinet, with snide remarks towards other parties. He will be judge, jury and executioner of his own cause. So it is self-serving for Vavi to say he is above using his position as a launching pad for a political career.
