Selfless and kind nurse

Roli Nikiwe

Roli Nikiwe

Nomonde Patience Nikiwe of Dlamini in Soweto was revered by her community as a kind, selfless giver and a dedicated nursing sister who always went beyond the call of duty.

Nikiwe died at the Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg last Wednesday after succumbing to cancer.

Her community, colleagues and friends will remember her as a trouper who rose to the occasion by immediately asking: "How can I be of help?"

She was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer in September. Unfortunately chemotherapy could not prevent the cancer from spreading further, leading to her death last week.

In the 22 years she was a nurse she served at various hospitals and clinics, including Chris Hani-Baragwanath, Lesedi and Sunninghill.

She is survived by her mother Nomthunzi Mtya and two children, Roli and Siphiwumonde Nikiwe.

Nikiwe will be buried tomorrow. The service will start at the Dlamini Multipurpose Centre at 8am.

The cortege will proceed to Avalon Cemetery at 10am.
