ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema says the Congress of the People is pitting young black graduates who "are still struggling to get loans to build their parents' houses against young whites who own thousands of cattle".
Speaking to about 200 students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town yesterday, Malema hit out at Cope's stance on affirmative action.
"Why listen to people who say to you a white Afrikaner child aged 25 qualifies to benefit from BEE? That child will inherit farms and huge businesses."
Malema also slammed "ungrateful" Cope leaders, who he said had been educated "from scratch" by the ANC. "Some of them would not even have qualified to use forks and knives if it were not for the ANC - they would have spent too much time on gates, letting cars in and out," he said - referring to Cope's deputy president Mbhazima Shilowa's background as a security guard.
