The World Boxing Foundation has thrown Francois Botha another lifeline by sanctioning a heavyweight clash between him and Ron Guerrero.
The fight is scheduled to take place in Potchefstroom next month.
The "White Buffalo" has not seen action since July 2007. That was when he laboured to a points victory over Bob Mirovic for the interim WBF belt.
Since then Botha had been promised a fight against former WBF champion Albert Sosnowski or Danny Williams.
But Sosnowski and Williams failed to honour their obligations and Sosnowski was stripped off the title.
"Drago", as Poland's Sosnowski is known, fought Williams last September and stopped him in the eighth round of their scheduled 10-rounder.
Sosnowski took that fight at a week's notice. He also boasts a victory against Osborne Machimana.
Now Botha, who has been picking his nose, has found solace from the Australian-based sanctioning body but he will fight a nobody.
Botha has fought several world heavyweight champions, including Mike Tyson, Shannon Briggs, Axel Schulz, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko, while no such big names appear in Guerrero's fight record.
The 34-year-old Mexican has been around since 1998 with no success.
He has 20 wins (14 KOs) from 36 fights while Botha, a former IBF champion, boasts 45 victories (28 KOs) from 52 fights.
Defeat for Botha, who had a distinguished career but was also stripped off the IBF belt after he tested positive for steroids, will signal the end of his career.
This 41-year-old fighter has participated in the kickboxing combat sport K-1 several times, winning two of his eight fights.
