Boxing history will be made at East London's Orient Theatre tomorrow night when two South African women's professional fighters fight for international belts.
Mdantsane's Noni Tenge, who is trained by Boyboy Mpulampula, will oppose Amanua Gifty Ankrah from Ghana for the WBF All African welterweight title.
Gauteng's Unathi Myekeni from the Nick Durandt camp will fight Roidah Mushikaro from Zambia for the same belt but in the junior featherweight division.
The two international title fights will be contested over 10 rounds of two minutes each. This championship event will be presented by promoter Koko Godlo, who dubbed it "Boxing against Xenophobia".
"It has generated a lot of interest, from the business to political sectors. Speakers will talk against xenophobia," he said.
Godlo said the tournament would also be used as a tribute to boxer Ludumo Galada, who was killed in a road accident near Aliwal North two weeks ago.
He was to defend the WBF featherweight strap against Takalani Ndlovu in tomorrow's main bout. It has since been replaced by the national welterweight title fight between champion Kaizer Mabuza and Mzukisi Mgidi.
It will be broadcast live on Blow by Blow at 9.30pm.
Tenge and Myekeni made their professional debuts in 2007. Tenge destroyed Brazilian Juliana de Aguiar, while Myekeni outpointed her compatriot Michelle Larissa Bonassoli.
Tenge boasts five stoppages from six fights, while Myekeni has only two short route wins from five fights.
In earlier fights Bomkazi Klaas faces Khensani Makama, while Sandra Almeida will meet Queen Tshabalala hoping to avenge a loss last August.
