It was a do-or-die encounter as the teams were deadlocked at 2-all, but it was the South African team that prevailed over an obdurate England outfit to clinch the series on Monday.
England, who batted first, were bundled out for 229, the main contributors being Sam Northeast and Joshua Cobb who scored 64 and 84 respectively. The pair also compiled 115 runs for the third wicket, but they never had any support from their teammates to set a bigger total.
South Africa U-19 debutant Siya Ntshona took three wickets and man of the match Obus Pienaar took two to go with his unbeaten 72.
The home side started off brightly enough, but lost the wicket of Andrea Agathagelou in the tenth over, with the total on 50. But Mangaliso Mosehle cracked 47 runs and Temba Bavuma also came to the party with 42 to guide their team to a comfortable win.
The spotlight now falls on the two back-to-back Pro20 matches, which will be held at Newlands today and at Boland Park in Paarl tomorrow. - Sapa
