It never rains but pours for a ward 27 councillor in the Greater Tubatse municipality, Limpopo.

Angry villagers at GaMampuru near Steelpoort burnt down Jeanette Mashegoane's parents' house and her grandmother's RDP house on Sunday night.

The villagers then attacked Mashegoane's house on Monday night. All items in the house were destroyed before it was set alight.

The arsonists accused Mashegoane of being behind the arrest of seven villagers who allegedly damaged a car belonging to the mayor, Samuel Mamekoa.

Mamekoa's car was smashed at the weekend during the funeral of a villager suspected of having been infected with cholera.

Mashegoane said she suspected her political opponents in the area were behind the attacks since she was not directly responsible for the village.

She said she was a councillor for a neighbouring village.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba confirmed yesterday that no arrest has been made in connection with the incidents but said investigations were being conducted.
