Mathebula set for title crack

The purse bids for the promotional rights to South African junior featherweight Jeffrey Mathebula's fight against Panamanian Celestine Caballero, which was to be held at the IBF headquarters in New Jersey today, has been cancelled.

The purse bids for the promotional rights to South African junior featherweight Jeffrey Mathebula's fight against Panamanian Celestine Caballero, which was to be held at the IBF headquarters in New Jersey today, has been cancelled.

The camps of the two fighters managed to reach an agreement about Mathebula's IBF and WBA title challenge against Caballero just hours before the bid proceedings were to start.

Mathebula's promoter, Branco Milenkovic, confirmed his US representative, Sampson Lewkowicz, managed to clinch the deal with Caballero's promoter, Warriors Promotion. Milenkovic said Warriors Promotion had suggested a March 20 date in Panama for the fight.

"We are pushing for the fight to be bought by American television network ShowBox, and if the deal goes through the fight will be staged in the US, possibly in April," Milenkovic said. - Sapa
