The family of a man who shot dead his wife and seriously wounded his father after a family row are relieved that he has killed himself.

The Malematsa family of Mokwasele village in Bolobedu, Limpopo, expressed relief at the weekend when they were told that their son was dead.

"Our brother has tortured the family so much and we believe he deserved nothing but to die," said a relative who did not want her name mentioned.

The man's body was found in a pool of blood in his home by the police on Friday.

Bolobedu police spokesman Captain Freddy Maenetja said a firearm lay near the body.

Maenetja identified the deceased as Mohale Abram Malematsa, aged 25.

Malematsa had shot his father, Sekgwari Malematsa, twice in the chest after a row about the son and his wife living in the house.

After the father was taken to hospital the man went into the house and dragged his wife out before killing her. Her body was found the following day.

The family said they fled after the man told them that he would return at night and kill them if they did not move out. They took refuge with relatives who live in another area.

A family member said though they mourned his death, they were happy because the man had become "a monster".
