Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola believes that innovations to the Standard Bank Pro20 series will add more excitement to the sport in South Africa.
He was speaking at the launch of the sixth edition of South Africa's premier 20-over tournament at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg yesterday.
Majola told Sowetan in an interview: "For the first time in the tournament's history the 2009 series offers a change in format. That is the introduction of a best-of-three semifinal round [home and away], with a third decider if necessary to ensure fans get a rocking edition to the business end of the series.
"This year our Pro20 side will also represent South Africa in the ICC Twenty20 World Championships in June in England.
"Secondly, this year's winners and runners-up [in the Standard Bank Pro20] will get the rights to take part in the Champions Twenty20 League scheduled for India in October."
He praised the sponsors for the excitement and innovations they had brought to cricket competitions.
