Club DJ Dee Rock's star keeps on rising with the recent release of his debut house album called Rock On.

The Club DJ, who has been in the business of playing at clubs first in Cape Town and later the rest of the country, is one of the busiest DJs around Johannesburg.

Based in Jozi over the past seven years, the architecture graduate says he had to give up his career in favour of showbiz when his services as a DJ took too much of his time.

"I know that because I come from a tradition of hip-hop and R&B, a lot of people expect me to be playing hip-hop," he says.

"The truth is, I used to play hip-hop music in underground circles until five years ago. In the past five years the popular music scene has changed, and house music took over. My style is deep vocal house music."

DJ Dee's diary is full at the moment since he is booked to perform at a number of venues throughout the country this month. On Friday January 16 he was booked to perform at the East London Bowling Club. And on Thursday, he had a gig at News Cafe, Northview, near Northgate.

That is not all. Towards the end of last month he had gigs confirmed at the Taliban in the Vaal and at Salsa in Sebokeng.

"I got into the DJ thing by mistake when a friend of mine, DJ McFarlane, in Cape Town, could not make it to a gig, and he asked me to go there and play. Since then I have been busy performing at top venues in Jozi and the rest of the country."
