Pietermaritzburg is the leading drunken driving city in KwaZulu-Natal.
This was announced yesterday by MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Bheki Cele, who released statistics of drivers who were nabbed for drunken driving in the City of Choice.
He said no other city surpasses Pietermaritzburg.
"I don't really know what more we must do to rescue the city from itself. Out of 222 384 motorists breathalysed, 1 340 were arrested for drunken driving and almost half of them were in Pietermaritzburg as it recorded 658," said Cele.
His concern comes just two days before former Bafana Bafana player and Sundowns defender Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela is to appear before the Pietermaritzburg magistrate's court on a drunken driving charge.
Mabizela will appear in court on Thursday.
