The ANC Women's League and women from the alliance partners the SACP, Cosatu and Sanco, announced yesterday that a non-stop electioneering campaign of 60 days would be launched in Kliptown, Johannesburg, on January 31.
The Women's League said the ANC would go to the elections to defend the majority vote it received in 1994, 1999 and in 2004.
It said it stood firmly behind the ANC and would mobilise voters to get more than 70 percent of the votes in the elections.
"If you win, you want to win well, but a big win ensures you have more people deployed into government to do your work," ANCWL president Angie Motshekga said.
"So you have more MPs who will then enable you to reach more and enable you to implement your programmes more," she added.
Asked how the league felt about the great emphasis on workers in the manifesto, as opposed to employment opportunities for women, Motshekga said the "best weapon against poverty is employment".
