Thembinkosi Mbeje approached Fred Masasanya in 2006, pleading for his help since he felt unsafe in the camp.
Masasanya sympathised with Mbeje and decided to let him live in his backyard room.
Mbeje lived at Masasanya's residence for three years.
On Friday, January 2 Mbeje started getting unexplainable pains in his right leg.
"He complained on Saturday that the pain was getting worse and he could not move," Masasanya says.
Mbeje refused to go to the nearby hospital, saying that "a pain in the leg does not warrant a visit to a hospital".
Mbeje died in his room on Sunday night and was found on Monday morning.
Masasanya is looking for anyone who knows the man and can help trace his family.
