The families of two schoolboys who were shot dead say they feel betrayed by the justice system.
This is because two years after their children were killed, the suspects have not been tried and are out on R100 bail each.
Thembinkosi Mpanza, 19, and Vukani Shange, 15, were allegedly shot by guards of Farm Watch, a security company.
Mpanza and Shange were in Grades 11 and 8 at S'bekezelo High School in eMasangweni near Empangeni. They were allegedly shot by security guards who caught the boys eating sugar cane at KwaBhekaphansi Farm in June 2006.
Mpanza was shot in the head and died on the scene. Shange, who was shot twice in the stomach, died a few months later. The suspects spent four days in custody and were then granted R100 bail each.
The trial was set for Tuesday at the Eshowe magistrate's court but was postponed to July 27 because there was no magistrate.
Mpanza's mother, Khomba Mpanza, said yesterday that the family felt "betrayed by the justice department". The pain of losing her son has weighed heavily on the family, she said.
"Two guards spotted and chased the boys. The pain of losing a child is unbearable and unforgettable. It is even worse when suspects are not tried. We have been going through agony," Mpanza said.
