Ramaala out to show up his doubters

Top South African marathon runner and Nedbank brand ambassador Hendrick Ramaala has confirmed he will be running in the Nedbank Running Club colours in this year and will challenge the strong field of athletes in this Saturday's Nedbank Matha 21km road race.

Ramaala, who won the New York Marathon in 2004 and finished third in the London Marathon in 2006, said he was ready to give it his best on Saturday on the streets of Tshwane.

He was included in the South African Olympic team but ran a disappointing race in Beijing and is ready to prove his critics wrong.

The first major national road race on the South African running calendar starts in Tshwane on Saturday with the Nedbank half- marathon that will take place at the High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria.

Most of South Africa's top road runners will be competing in the event with its impressive prize purse of R207100.

Lusapho April is another of the top Nedbank Running Club members who has his eye on the R20000 first prize. The top man and woman will each receive a R20000 winner's cheque.

Another Nedbank club athlete in good shape at the moment is the up-and-coming Xolisa Tyali.

Entries can be submitted via leading Gauteng running sports stores or at www.enteronline.co.za or by calling Athletics South Africa on 011- 880-5800.
