The year has begun on a sour note for Matshidiso Primary School in, Katlehong at Ekurhuleni. The school was burgled and four computers, a keyboard and two printers were stolen.
A teacher Isaac Thefeng said the break-in was discovered yesterday by a caretaker.
Thefeng said the alarm did not go off during the burglary and that the department had done away with nightwatchmen. He said a neighbouring school had also been burgled on Friday.
"All the information about the new registrations has been lost. We will have to improvise tomorrow and register each child through their application forms."
Thefeng said the start of teaching tomorrow would be affected. "We have reported the burglary to the police and are now waiting for fingerprint experts," said Thefeng.
Last year a man was found hanged on the premises.
