As tragic as war is I find it in awfully bad taste for Don Krausz in his letter "Israeli civilians suffer a lot" (January 7) to compare the suffering of the Israelis to that of the Palestinians.
I would like to ask how many Palestinians have died compared with Israelis? What is the average life expectancy of a Palestinian stuck in a refugee camp compared to an Israeli's?
He talks of cowardly attacks when the Israeli air force drops bombs on schools.
Let's not forget that the Israeli government was a keen supporter of the old apartheid regime. The plight of the Palestinians is similar to that of the blacks in South Africa under apartheid .
If Krausz is such a supporter of Israel then I suggest he go back to his own country and defends it there.
Fellow South Africans, we have achieved our freedom and we did it with the help of other oppressed groups.
Let's not be arrogant and forget those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us and whose pain and suffering was comparable to ours.
We cannot be free while our comrades in other lands are still fighting for their freedom.
