Red tide sweeps Ahly to victory

Football on the continent has been dominated by the Egyptians both at national and club level in recent years.

The north African country has bossed the Africa Cup of Nations winning back-to-back titles in the past two editions while super club Al Ahly have found no match in the CAF Champions League, emulating the Pharaohs.

That begs the question: is there anyone out there who can stop the Egyptian juggernaut?

The African Soccer Television show highlights the Egyptian Red Devils' rampage to another Champs League title on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday at 2.30pm.

Granted modest Platinum Stars did beat them along the way, but that was in a first leg game. They also drew some games along the way, as they did in the semifinal against Nigerian giants Enyimba away but they saw them off in the return leg in Cairo.

Zimbabwe's Dynamos lost out to Cotonsport of Cameroon in the other semifinal .

Many a team will tell unbelievable stories about the atmosphere at the Independence Stadium when a sea of red takes over the stands and urges Al Ahly on. Cotonsport learnt the hard way with a 2-0 pasting in the final's first leg before being held to a 2-all draw at home to lose 4-2 on aggregate.

ASTV also screens a one-on-one interview with Kwasi Nyantakyi, Ghana Football Association boss.
