The Pop Idols competition, which has unleashed talent and transformed ordinary girls and boys into celebrities, will hit Johannesburg on Sunday after taking Durban by storm this week.

This week the competition saw several would-be Beyonces and R Kellys try their luck in the Banana City.

The competition started on Tuesday and will end today - before heading for Johannesburg for the final leg.It is at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Joburg, that the competition is expected to be at its fiercest. The judges are Gareth Cliff, Dave Thompson, Randall Abraham and Mara Louw.

"The turnout so far has been the biggest since Pop Idols was first held here. Today (yesterday) is the call-back time and tomorrow (today) is the TV stage," said Portia Adams, speaking to Sowetan by phone from Durban yesterday.

"We are, however, expecting a lot of people and a lot of talent to pitch up in Johannesburg on Sunday."

lThe competition will start showing on M-Net on February 1 at 5.30pm.
