If taxi associations have become adept at proverbially burying the hatchet, they have also been infamously shrewd enough to remember where they buried it - returning to use it against their adversaries with a vengeance.

So not much will most likely be made by the public of the latest noises from feuding Johannesburg taxi associations, which have pledged to work together to make taxi ranks safe this year.

Problem is that these pledges have been made by the same associations too many times before.
