People in a dusty North West village say they now feel safe after the arrest of a 17-year-old girl who allegedly stabbed her father to death in a violent frenzy just before Christmas.
The teenager also allegedly wounded a 43-year-old neighbour.
Villagers in Majakaneng, near Brits, were so scared of her that they immediately made way whenever they met her.
The girl was initially charged with murder and released into the custody of her mother but was later taken into custody after reportedly threatening one of her aunts with a knife. She is now being held at a place of safety.
The attacks began on December 21 when she reportedly stabbed her neighbour with a broken bottle.
Mpho Mohlamme said she was with her friend, Mapula Dhlomo, when an argument broke out between the girl and Dhlomo.
"The young girl came running towards us with a broken beer bottle and tried to stab Dhlomo. I stood in front of my friend and was stabbed in the back," Mohlamme said.
The girl's father then gave her a hiding. But villagers say she feigned unconsciousness and later got up and stabbed him with a butcher's knife. He died in hospital nine days later.
Her mother has denied the teenager pretended to be unconscious.
"After suffering a serious beating from her father, my child fell unconscious for three hours," the mother said. "I don't know what happened because I only heard about it when people screamed that she had stabbed my husband."
The teenager's aunt said: "We have learnt that she stabbed my brother while he was quarreling with her mother."
She said the teenager's release from custody had struck fear into her relatives.
"She insulted us and said she would kill us just like she had her father. She said she was a vampire that liked human blood.
"We were scared and left before anything bad happened. She can be violent and everybody is scared of her, especially when she has consumed liquor."
There were also unconfirmed reports that the girl had earlier stabbed two other people with a knife.
Mooinooi police confirmed that the teenager was taken into custody and was expected to appear in court next month.
