Police in Apel in Sekhukhune have arrested seven people aged between 22 and 33 for the murder of a 60-year-old man.

The suspects were arrested in GaMachacha near Apel.

Lot Machacha was stoned to death on Sunday at about 2.30am.

The suspects allegedly accused him of having caused the death of a man in the village three months ago.

"The other people fingered in the murder of the same man three months ago are now in hiding," Limpopo police spokesman Mo-hale Ramatseba said yesterday.

Ramatseba urged residents to notify the police if they suspected anyone of committing a crime and warned people against taking the law into their own hands.

He said more suspects are expected to be arrested soon and are set to appear in the Sekhu-khune magistrate's court on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Makuya, police have arrested a 72-year-old man in connection with the rape and murder of a 67-year-old woman.

The woman's body was found in the bushes outside Tshitavha-Sambandou village on Sunday.

The victim was reported missing on Saturday.

Her partially clothed body was found by police and residents who had launched a search for her.

Her throat had been slit.
