Rowdy patrons rounded up

Forty-one people were arrested in Daveyton yesterday morning for alleged drunk driving and drinking in public, Johannesburg police said.

Forty-one people were arrested in Daveyton yesterday morning for alleged drunk driving and drinking in public, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Alfred Nakana said the arrests followed repeated complaints from residents, who said rowdy patrons at a nearby pub broke bottles on their streets and made a lot of noise.

"There's a place called Thirteen where people gather every Monday night and, as usual, residents complained of rowdy patrons who block Eislen Street, breaking bottles and stealing or damaging their cars," Nakana said.

Those arrested for drunk driving would appear in the Benoni magistrate's court.

Those caught for drinking in public had paid admission of guilt fines.

"We will have crime prevention operations throughout the festive season and those who intend committing any crime will face the full might of the law," Nakana said. - Sapa
