Steyn destroys Aussies

It was a day of toil and consolidation for South Africa yesterday as they chipped away at the Australian second innings total to the point where they should return today to wrap up the Test and the series.

Australia were dismissed for 247 setting the visitors a 182 for a win. South Africa wasted little time plundering 30 for no wickets at stumps.

Dale Steyn bowled well taking the first two wickets to fall and 10 in the match but the spell of the day probably belonged to his unsung partner, Morne Morkel who bowled with pace, bounce and a little luck to hammer away at an Australian.

Though his first wicket (Mike Hussey) was unluckily adjudged caught at square leg, it was off the helmet, he captured the prized scalp of Ricky Poniting. He could have taken three as he generated significant pace returning figures of 6-2-9-1.
