A 15-year-old boy from Lesotho spent Christmas night in pain after he was mauled by two dogs allegedly set on him by a guesthouse owner in Fouriesburg, Free State.

Police spokesman Sergeant Mmako yesterday that Michael O'Brien of Camel Rock Guest Farm allegedly also pinned the boy to the ground while the dogs mauled him.

"It is reported ... that the boy approached a woman with a piece of wire in his hand," Mophiring said. "The man saw him walking towards the woman and let loose his two dogs who attacked him."

Mophiring said the boy was treated the following day because there were no doctors available on Christmas Day. He was later discharged.

O'Brien was arrested and released on a R500 bail yesterday.

Mophiring said O'Brien would appear again in court.
