Boy Soke reckons he's ready to defend the 12km Southern Region Cross-Country Championships title in Mauritius on March 1.

Soke was the only winner from the South African team at championship in Zambia in February.

"I gave it all in that event and I will do the same in Mauritius. I have been training hard and I'm determined to make my country proud in this tournament," said the 25-year-old athlete from Welkom.

He is hoping to make the squad to represent the country at the IAAF World Cross-Country Championships in Jordan on March 28.

The event in Mauritius will culminate with the selection of the Athletics South Africa (ASA's) team for international championships.

The team for Mauritius includes seasoned campaigners like Stephen Mokoka, Jeffrey Gwebu, Tshamano Setone, the Phalula twins, Lebo and Lebogang, Violet Raseboya, Tebogo Masehla, Takalane Nthulane, Myrette Filmalter and Annerien van Schalkwyk among other and the ASA says it hopes these athletes will represent South Africa well.
