Music producer Preston Sihlangu has not yet made good on his promise to pay maintenance for his four-year-old son with his former lover Didi Magandela.
Magandela, of Bloemfontein, told Sowetan yesterday that Sihlangu had made only two payments - one in March and another in April.
"Since then he has been making promises that he has not fulfilled. "lthough he is seen in Blomfontein, he has not bothered to pay a cent of the maintenance money for his son. He keeps on promising but never pays.
"I am sick and tired of his empty promises. I met him recently at a restaurant and his bill was R300 for the dinner. How can he claim not to have money?
"When I say I want the money, he accuses me of wanting him back. All I want is just the money and not him," Magandela said.
He owes R8000 in arrears.
Sihlangu, who was part of the Coca-Cola Popstars, has been a producer at 999 Music, while he also releases his own albums under the same label.
Sowetan, however, understands that of late he has not been doing well financially.
Contacted for comment, Sihlangu agreed that he had not been paying because he did not have money. "I have tried to explain my situation to her - that it is not because I do not want to pay but just that business has not been doing well in the past two months. I am prepared to go to court and explain my situation.
"I just think she is bitter," he said.
