DJ Shabba, of Ligwalagwala FM, is facing a culpable homicide case following a road accident in which he knocked down a suspected criminal in the early hours of yesterday.

Shabba, pictured, whose real name is Dumisa Mavuso, was travelling along the R40 near Nelspruit when a man ran in front of his car at about 3am.

The man died on the spot and when police arrived they established that he was in possession of jewellery and cellphones valued at about R30000.

Police believe the man was running away from a crime scene where he had just stolen the items found on him.

Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane confirmed the incident.

"We are investigating a culpable homicide case and a possible robbery," Khoabane said.

Mavuso was still shaken when Sowetan called him yesterday.

"It was a very unfortunate accident," Mavuso said.

The dead man has not been identified.
