Bongani Malevu will have a decent Christmas after all.

This was his wish. Sowetan readers yesterday opened their hearts and wallets to help the disabled 19-year-old Malevu, who was paralysed after he was shot at the Nancefield Hostel last year.

First to answer the call was Tebogo Sehlaku who went to the hostel to talk to Malevu.

"I wanted to see what he needs. When I got there I realised that he needed food, clothes and soap.

"I have already spoken to my colleagues at City Power who were touched by his plight and have promised to help."

Sehlaku said City Power's sister company, Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market, would give Malevu fruits and vegetables.

"I will go there [the hostel] tomorrow to deliver the goods," Sehlaku said.

Three other readers - Bernard Mhunduru, a woman only identified as Veronica, and another, who asked to remain anonymous - have pledged to help Malevu with food.
