The strong presence of police and security guards near Durban's beaches and shopping malls is promising holiday-makers a safer and more enjoyable festive season.

The city is flooded with people on holiday with their families, but the criminals are already disturbing their peace. Police however say all corners of the city and province are now secured.

Police spokesman Phindile Radebe says they will have air support in the form of helicopters.

"We will have 'eyes in the sky' this festive season. The joint festive season deployment is being complemented by two helicopters that will assist our members on the ground," she said.

The choppers, from the police's Air Wing and Air Force, have been deployed to assist the SAPS and Metro officers.
