With South African football having gone into a well deserved festive break, the game's fanatics have resorted to organising tournaments to keep the home fires burning, so to speak.

Television, which becomes a football ground away from the stadiums over weekends, also tends to be a turnoff at this time of the year.

Thus it comes as a huge relief that the African Soccer Television show that airs on SABC1 Sports' Laduma programme on Sundays at 2.30pm is not about to go into recess.

This weekend the show goes back down memory lane with highlights of the year and profiles the journey to stardom of Ghana's Dede Ayew.

The youngster, who is the son of former African Player of the Year Abedi Pele Ayew, burst into the big time and announced his arrival with some scintillating performances for the Black Stars when brought on during the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in his home country earlier this year.

Dede is just one of the sons of former African stars to continue where their fathers left off. You immediately think of players like Jomo Sono and Bamuza Sono, Pro Khumalo and Doctor Khumalo, Chippa Moloi and Tebogo Moloi... the list can go on and on.

Other highlights look at the launch of the Fifa 2010 World Cup ambassador programme.

The different African stars roped in to help promote and market the event are introduced as their role in their different countries and around the world is explained.

Then ASTV wraps up the programme with highlights from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Super Cup between Etoile de Sahel and CS Sfaxien, which Etoile won 2-1 in an entertaining final.
