Spurs boosted by win

Witbank Spurs believe that their taming of arch-rivals Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 in their inland stream National First Division encounter played at KaNyamazane Stadium on Saturday will make the Mpumalanga government recognise them as one of the teams from the province.

"We feel neglected by our own provincial government. Every time they organised soccer events they left us out. Firstly they hosted a Mpumalanga Premier International Cup (Aces, Kaizer Chiefs, Mbabane Highlanders from Swaziland and Deportivo de Maputo from Mozambique participated) and they didn't include us.

Last week they staged another tournament (Cabulela Ekhaya, which was aimed at encouraging people not to drink and drive but rather drink at home) and instead of considering us they choose Moroka Swallows and again Aces was included. We feel bitter about this treatment and it seems like the only team in the province is Aces," said Themba Mafu, Spurs' technical director.

Back to the game, after a barren fist half Spurs opened their account in the 57th minute via Peter Mubayiwa who headed in a corner kick from Ali Sadiki.

But Aces equalised in the 75th minute through Vusiwe "TK" Masondo. Three minutes later Phuthi Muhafe secured Spurs maximum points when he scored from another corner kick from Sadiki.

The win was a second one for Spurs over Aces since Amazayoni relocated to Mpumalanga last season. Sivutha beat Aces 3-0 in the first round. Last season they drew all their three encounters.

Elsewhere Winners Park advanced to the top spot following their 2-0 victory over the struggling FC AK at Eldorado Park also on Saturday.

In the coastal stream, African Warriors registered the highest score in the league when they walloped Durban Stars 7-0 at Charles Mopeli Stadium.

FC Cape Town beat Hanover Park 3-2.
