South Africa's bad boy of soccer, defender Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela, made a brief appearance in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate's court yesterday on a charge of driving under the influence of liquor.
Mabizela was arrested at a roadblock in Alan Paton Avenue in Pietermaritzburg last Friday after he was allegedly found to be four times over the legal alcohol limit.
There was commotion in court after Mabizela, 28, refused to enter the courtroom, demanding that press photographers and cameramen from the SABC be removed.
However, the wayward Mamelodi Sundowns defender eventually entered as he realised that refusing to get inside would land him in trouble for contempt of court.
Journalists had jam-packed the court in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the troublesome player, who has made headlines for all the wrong reasons recently.
Mabizela's case was postponed to January 21 to allow the defence to get further instructions from him.
