The country's highest grossing movie Mr Bones 2, pictured, has just been released at cinemas countrywide, but fake DVDs of the movie are already selling on the streets.

The pirate merchants sell fake Mr Bones 2 DVDs to the unsuspecting public.

Even though the country is awash with pirated music and movie DVDs, with cheap replicas of the real thing selling at ridiculous prices compared to the originals, this time around the daring pirate merchants have gone further with their nefarious practice.

They are selling even empty boxes of Mr Bones 2 movies to people.

Mr Bones 2, which has so far grossed R33million at the box office and made R9million in its first week of release, is the brainchild of South Africa's favourite funny man, Leon Schuster, who has made movie history with the success of his alter ego, Mr Bones.

Samples of the fake movies have been taken from North Rand Road in Boksburg, New Road in Midrand, Benmore Gardens in Sandton, Atterbury Road in Pretoria, Chameleon Village Flea Market and Montana Traders Square, Blue Lagoon and West Street, Chatsworth and Phoenix in Durban as well as various points in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Mr Bones 2 is only showing in cinemas with the DVD launch expected by next March. The film was shot on location in Durban and was released on November 27.
