Dilikani Nxumalo, a descendant of King Mpisana of the Shangaans, has challenged Bushbuckridge executive mayor Milton Morema to develop the site where King Nghunghunyana's descendants are buried.
Nxumalo spent more than R600000 on a function to celebrate what he called Mpisana Day on Saturday.
Guests came from as far as Mozambique and Swaziland to attend the function that took place near 30 Nxumalo graves at Mkhweyantaba near Thulamahashe.
Nxumalo said: "We are celebrating 112 years of the Shangaan people's presence in this area.
"I challenge the Bushbuckridge municipality to develop this place. If they don't, then I shall develop the place myself," he said.
Chief Eric Mpisana Nxumalo is the leader of the Shangaans in the area. Sources said he might soon be made paramount king of the Shangaans.
