So Smith, who produced and starred in both pictures, is keen to return for second instalments.
A source told the New York Post: "He is ready to do both. Producers are just trying to get Charlize Theron to sign on for the Hancock sequel."
The I Am Legend follow-up will have to be a prequel, showing the events leading up to the first movie.
The insider adds: "It will be about how the disease spreads and the fall of the last great American city.
