The Inkatha Freedom Party has lashed out at the ANC Youth League for its recent statements about the controversial proposed development on Macambini land on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.
The league lashed out at segments of the community for turning their protests into a political tussle.
They were referring to the traditional leader of Macambini holding office for the IFP, while some IFP leaders allegedly used the situation for their own gain.
The Macambini residents continue their protests against the R44 billion development project on their land. The development, proposed by the Dubai-based Ruwaad consortium and the provincial government, is aimed at turning the area into a world tourism paradise.
The community instead support a deal by rival Dubai-based bidder CSI for a R23million project.
IFP general secretary Musa Zondi said for the ANCYL to say the community was unwilling to agree to the development project was "mischievous and ill-informed".
Zondi said the facts of the Macambini impasse were public knowledge.
He accused Premier S'bu Ndebele of pushing ahead with the implementation of the Ruwaad development project, while the community has made it clear that they do not approve of the project that "will force them off their land".
"We find it laughable and mischievous of the ANCYL to claim that Inkosi Khayelihle Mathaba, when acting on the direction of his community, is deliberately obstructing the proposed development because of an IFP agenda," Zondi said.
He said the residents were not consulted on the Ruwaad deal before its announcement and now live in fear of being removed from their ancestral land.
