Hours before Miss Russia Kseniya Sukhinova, pictured, was crowned the new Miss World, chaos reigned at the Sandton Convention Centre when hundreds of people were locked out of the venue by 4.45pm on Saturday.
What worsened matters was the absence of personnel to register and issue accreditation to allow people to enter during TV commercial breaks.
As a result people forced their way into the venue and took other people's seats.
Trailing behind the Russian beauty were first and second runners-up, India's Parvathy Omanakuthan and Trinidad and Tobago's Gabrielle Walcott.
Home crowd advantage was clearly evident and when South Africa's Tansy Coetzee made it to the top five alongside India, Trinidad and Tobago, Angola and Russia and the crowd became excited .
