The family of Nonhlanhla Kunene, the student who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend Siphiwe Khumalo, did not discuss her relationship with the football star.

"We knew about her relationship with Siphiwe but were not aware there was a problem because she never liked to speak about it," said Nozi Letsoenyo, Kunene's sister.

She said her family was still reeling from the shock.

Kunene, 23, is survived by her five-year-old daughter.

She was found dead in a student residence at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), with her boyfriend Khumalo hanging from the ceiling.

It is alleged that Khumalo stabbed his girlfriend before hanging himself.

Their decomposing bodies were found on Tuesday.

Khumalo and Kunene had both completed their diplomas in sports management and were due to graduate next month.

Letsoenyo said her sister had just resigned from her job as a sports presenter at VUT FM (the campus radio) to start a new job.

Meanwhile, postmortem results confirmed that Khumalo committed suicide and Kunene died of stab wounds to the neck.
