Place for six clubs at top tourney

Organisers of the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Games are racing against time to get six more clubs for the yearly 16-team competition in Pretoria that runs from December 15 to 30.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Itu Moloto, the event spokesman, said teams that are interested in registering for the competition have until Saturday to do so.

Moloto said that by yesterday they had registered 10 teams "and we have six slots left to achieve our target of 16".

Moloto indicated that they will use two fields for the event - Super Stadium and Mbolekwa Ground - both in Atteridgeville.

For the first time this year's competition will feature Under-14 teams.

l The inaugural Pollen Festive Games takes place in Daveyton from December 17 to 31.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen "Trompies" Ndlanya, tournament coordinator, said they will only accommodate 20 senior teams.

Under-13 and Under-17 teams will also feature in the tournament and deadline for the registration is tomorrow.

The eliminations games will be held at Saints Grounds, next to Oasis Church, and finals at Nomathamsanqa Park.

l Springs Local Football Association will be hosting the Cell C tournament at KwaThema Sports Complex from December 16 to 30.

l The Godfrey Moloi Goodwill Games will get under way from December 16 to 31 at Mapetla Sports Ground in Soweto.

The draw will be held on Sunday at 4pm at the sports ground.

l Benoni North Local Football Association (Daveyton) will be staging the Tuka Diski Games from December 17 to 31.

The matches will be played at Chris Hani Sports Grounds, Etwatwa and Sinaba Stadium.
