Trainer Johnny du Plooy said he was extremely upset with Boxing SA for its "negligence", which he said has cost his fighter, Kaizer Fokasa, a place in the finals of the Baby Champs.

He took a swipe at Abram Khambule, who assists Loyiso Mtya on matters pertaining to this development programme.

"He called me on Friday last week during the weigh-in for the second semifinals that were staged on Saturday at the Golden Walk mall in Germiston and demanded to know where my fighter Kaizer Fokasa was because he was supposed to be there.

"Abram said Fokasa was to fight there but I told him that we did not know that. Now my boxer is out of the Baby Champs.

"How can BSA treat me like this when they know too well that I believe in the Baby Champs where I produced champions like Bongani Mwelase, Tshepang Mohale, Bongani Mahlangu and many more," he fumed.

Khambule's response was sweet and short: "I will not exchange words with Du Plooy in the newspapers."

Mtya stood by Khambule.

"Johnny must have forgotten that his boy was to fight. He was told. Boxers themselves are informed before and after their fights about their next outings," he said.

Meanwhile, the famed Dube Boyz Club in Soweto will have a closing party on December 15 at 5.30pm, head trainer George Ngwenya announced yesterday.

This gym was established 50 years ago.

It produced dogs of war such as the legendary Anthony "Blue Jaguar" Morodi, Levi "Golden Boy" Madi, Alfred "Kid Bassie" Buqwana, Ben "TNT" Lekalake, David Moyo, Gabriel Dlamini, Maxwell "Shaluza" Malinga, Jacob "Baby Jake" Matlala, and Takalani "The Panther" Ndlovu, to mention but a few.

Theo Mthembu honed their skills alongside Ngwenya, Steve Masike and Johnson Vilakazi.

Mthembu doubled as a manager. He died last year.

Buqwana is a celebrated referee and judge who has officiated in major world championships all over the world while Matlala co-promotes with Branco Milenkovic under the banner of Branco Sports Production.
