The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Blouberg, Limpopo, is involved in a bitter wrangle with the ANC over promotional material of preferred candidates.
Sanco defied Luthuli House wishes and printed T-shirts depicting their preferred candidate for the ANC in the Capricorn region.
The acrimony manifested itself on public radio yesterday when the two organisations were at each other's throat over the issue. The ANC took a resolution prior to the Polokwane and Vhembe conferences to bar members from printing T-shirts or any other promotional material during elective conferences.
However, Sanco has done the opposite and printed thousands of T-shirts with the message: 100 percent for Mapoulo.
Lawrence Mapoulo is an ANC bigwig in the Capricorn district municipality. He was once a mayor for the Polokwane municipality and is the current secretary for the Polokwane East branch of the ANC.
Blouberg Sanco sub-regional chairman William Moshuhla said "the civic organization was an autonomous body with its own Constitution".
He said the resolution by the ANC not to use promotional materials during conferences "applies only to the ANC. We are an independent body aligned to the ANC but operating independently".
"The ANC cannot tell us what to do and who to forward as chairman of the region. We want Mapoulo because he is streetwise with abundant experience in as far as service delivery is concerned," said Moshuhla.
ANC provincial spokesman Ishmael Kgetjepe described Moshuhla's stance as "hogwash and nonsensical".
Speaking on SABC's ThobelaFMmorning programme, Kgetjepe said the ANC would take disciplinary action against anyone who defied its resolutions.
