Mama Angel had the time of her life when she took 20 community workers to a Randburg salon for a day of serious pampering.

The treat was a gift from Pinky Kgoabane, who wanted to honour the selfless workers.

"It took a year to plan but when it happened it was truly unforgettable for everyone," Kgoabane said.

"It is a day I will cherish for the rest of my life. The day was the embodiment of who we are as a people and also what we can be.

"The lovely ladies arrived decked out in their Sunday best, wigs, step-ins and all," Kgoabane said.

Her little children, Noxi and Thembi, and their friends, waited on the ladies hand and foot.

The kids had a big job. "Water, please," or "Juice, please," or "Something salty please," or "Oops, too sweet," greeted them from all sides.

The community workers introduced themselves and then reminisced about their extraordinary lives and experiences.

They were treated to manicures, pedicures and massages.

Mama Angel also took care of lunch.

The grannies did some serious gym work, of a different type, too. It was jaw exercises - from chewing to networking.

And all the time the kids were running around and the beauticians were hard at work too.

Kgoabane said: "I asked friends to contribute because I know many people want to help.

My friends dug into their pockets and into their hearts.

"Abo gogo thank you. Thanks also to Mama Angel for a precious day."
