With so many of our readers hitting the road for a well-deserved break over the festive period, RoadRave would like to wish you all a peaceful and relaxed, but above all, safe holiday.

When travelling please remember to follow a few simple rules:

nMake sure your car is serviced before undertaking a long journey. Parts that should be checked are tyres, fan belts, brakes, lights and indicators.

nPlan your trip and don't rush. As the saying goes, "better late than dead on time!"

nShare the responsibility of driving and never drive for more than three hours without a break.

n Most importantly, don't drink and drive.

It's not only your life you are putting at risk if you ignore this important message, but those of your family and other road users.

Traffic departments around the country are adopting zero tolerance policies against motorists who disregard the laws of the road, with many setting up courts next to highways to deal expeditiously with transgressions.

Remember, we need you all back safe and sound for what promises to be an exciting 2009. Arrive Alive.
