Life has gone from bad to worse for Louisa Sibeko.
She has been admitted to hospital after her health deteriorated over the past weeks.
Sibeko, 63, has been in a wheelchair since she suffered a stroke eight years ago.
But her health deteriorated when she and more than 20 other families were evicted from the farm Botesdal in Lanseria, northwest of Johannesburg, in July. They were dumped on the side of the R512 road by Wraypex, a development company.
Wraypex plans to build a golf estate, hotel and townhouses on the land. The families have been living along the road without water, toilets and proper shelter.
The angry evictees told Sowetan yesterday that government officials came to the area several times but nothing happened.
"They were here again yesterday and gave us the same promises they gave us before," Priscilla Masilo said.
Gauteng department of housing spokesman Aviva Manqa said the families would be accommodated in a new project in Lion Park near Lanseria.
"We have referred the matter to the city council and we are waiting for their response," he said.
