Newcomers Carara Kicks are firmly in the driver's seat in the National First Division coastal stream where they hope to remain until the end of the season.

The Bethlehem-based outfit consolidated their position with a narrow 3-2 win over mid-table Vasco da Gama at Welkom Stadium on Friday night.

The star-studded side owned by Motebang Mokoena and guided by ex-Free State Stars player David Vilakazi, has collected 22 points from 11 games.

"It's a bit tough but we are happy that things are going according to plans," said Allan Chetty, Kicks' technical staff member.

In other games, second-placed Ikapa Sporting dropped two valuable points when they drew 0-0 with Hanover Park in Vygieskraal.

Ikapa are sitting on 18 points. African Warriors are still third after a 1-1 draw with FC Cape Town.

Warriors have 16 points. In another game, bottom of the table Nathi Lions and Durban Stars failed to score at Chatsworth Stadium.

Moving to the inland stream, Pretoria University are back on top of the log after a 2-1 win over Witbank Spurs. Second-placed Jomo Cosmos played to a 0-0 draw with FC AK, while Dynamos beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1.

Winners Park lost 3-1 to Black Leopards in a Limpopo derby .
